Beijing - May 25, 2017 8:53:04 AM

I. Background:

The 13th Five-Year Plan highlights the urgent need for new drivers of growth in China’s “new normal”. Led by key national strategies like Internet plus, big data, Made in China 2025 and AI application, smart cities, where new-type urbanization squares with informatization, provide staunch support for local governments to promote innovation-driven development and economic restructuring. The integration and development of (mobile) Internet and various sectors has become an unstoppable trend. With the increasing government input in informatization, a new upsurge of smart city building is in the making. Incomplete stats show that as of the end of 2016, over 400 Chinese cities had announced their commitment to smart city building. It is, therefore, a pressing task to quench the universal thirst for smart city knowhow.

Inaugurated in 2009, the Smart City Forum has been held for eight years. Since it became an important part of CHITEC in 2013, the Forum has served as an international platform for Chinese smart city building and information sharing.

Around the theme of “In-depth Integration and Development of Internet and Real Economy”, this year’s session will shed light on new applications, new sectors and new management modes constantly bred by new technologies (e.g. cloud computing, Internet of Things, big data, AI, smart hardware, and augmented reality). Among the new management modes conducive to city governance, public services and industrial restructuring are smart, green, smart-oriented manufacturing as well as sharing economy. The session hopes the flows of technologies, talents and materials will converge into the stream of information and buoy total factor productivity. At the session, domestic and international experts, scholars, business leaders, innovation & investment institutions, government officials and city managers will open up about smart city building in the years to 2020. In answer to the call for “mass entrepreneurship and innovation”, the session will also enable manufacturers, service providers, operators at home and abroad to tap into market opportunities and sign off on key projects.
